The Delhi High Court has dismissed a petition seeking to halt the demolition of shooting coach Samresh Jung's residence in the Khyber Pass area of Civil Lines, Delhi. Jung, known for coaching Olympic medalist Manu Bhaker, faced legal challenges as his brother Samir Jung contested the March 1 demolition order.
Justice Sanjeev Narula ruled that the petitioner had no legal claim to the property, citing its sublease to Jung's family. The Central Government had previously issued a demolition notice affecting occupants spread across 32 acres in Khyber Pass.
The petition, filed through Advocates Rohit Yadav, Sahil Siddiqui, and Gultash Guron, stated that the family had been sub-tenants for over 70 years. It contested a March 1 notice that labeled approximately 1,000 residents as unauthorized occupiers and initiated blanket eviction without due process. The plea also highlighted the family's contributions to the nation, including the legacy of freedom fighter Colonel Sher Lung and the athletic achievements of Samaresh Jung. Despite these arguments, the plea was dismissed, with Justice Narula noting the overarching demolition action in the area.
