VIT Donates ₹1 Crore to Kerala Relief Efforts Following Wayanad Landslide
Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) donated ₹1 crore to the Kerala Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund for landslide relief. VIT Founder Dr G. Viswanathan presented the cheque to CM Pinarayi Vijayan. Relief operations continue for missing persons and those affected in Wayanad, with numerous camps established for survivors.

Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) has demonstrated its commitment to societal welfare by donating ₹1 crore to the Kerala Chief Minister's Distress Relief Fund in response to the devastating landslide that recently struck Wayanad. VIT Founder and Chancellor Dr G. Viswanathan handed over the demand draft to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at the State Secretariat on Monday, August 5.
Accompanying the Chancellor were VIT Vice-Presidents Sankar Viswanathan, Dr G.V. Selvam, and Assistant Vice-President Kadhambari S. Viswanathan. On the same day, the Wayanad district administration organized a mass burial ceremony for the unidentified victims of the disaster, held at Puthumala. The solemn event included prayers from various religious traditions.
The massive landslide that hit Chooralmala and Mundakkai in Wayanad on July 30 has claimed 308 lives, with 220 bodies recovered and 180 people still missing. Relief operations have set up 53 camps to shelter 6,759 displaced individuals. Rescue efforts continue vigorously in the affected areas.
