In an emotional turn of events, Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the finals of the 50 kg women's wrestling event. Her father-in-law, Rajpal Rathi, urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take up the issue with the International Olympic Committee, asserting that Silver medal is her rightful claim.
'We demand PM Modi to take cognizance of this matter and put pressure on the Olympic organization. It's our right, and she is the daughter of the country,' Rathi told ANI. He lauded the Haryana Government's decision to honor Phogat, requesting further intervention from the PM for the Silver medal.
Following her disqualification, Phogat announced her retirement from wrestling in an emotional social media post, expressing her heartbreak. Despite the setback, the Indian delegation remains hopeful as Avinash Sable competes in the 3000 Metre Steeplechase final. India's medal count includes three bronze medals all from shooting events.
