Union Minister JP Nadda has vehemently criticized the opposition for calling discussions over Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat's disqualification. Addressing the Rajya Sabha, Nadda emphasized that the entire nation stands with Phogat, who PM Modi hailed as the 'champion of champions.' The minister accused the opposition of having no substantial issues for debate, which the ruling party is ready to discuss.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann expressed his dismay over the disqualification, recounting his visit to Phogat's house. Mann mentioned that an Olympic gold medal was at stake and criticized the decision, suggesting that her hair could have been cut to meet the weight requirements. He questioned the role of Phogat's coach and physiotherapist in this mishap, asserting it wasn't her fault.

In a significant blow to India's wrestling prospects, Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the 50 kg women's wrestling event after exceeding the weight limit. She was scheduled to face United States' Sarah Ann Hildebrandt for the Gold Medal. Phogat had earlier defeated Cuba's Yusneylis Guzman Lopez 5-0 in the semi-finals, marking a major upset for India's medal aspirations.
