BJP candidate Sanjay Tandon has filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court contesting the victory of Congress candidate Manish Tewari in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Tewari won by a margin of 2,504 votes in the Chandigarh constituency.
In his petition, Tandon alleges that Tewari engaged in corrupt practices during the election, including making misleading promises and offering financial incentives to voters. The petition seeks to annul Tewari's election and declare Tandon as the duly elected Member of Parliament for Chandigarh. The allegations cite violations of various sections of the Representation of People Act, 1951.
The court has issued a notice of motion and scheduled the next hearing for September 9, 2024. The matter was presented by Advocate Chetan Mittal, Ashu M Punchhi, and Satyam Tandon.
