Finance Secretary TV Somanathan has been appointed as the new Cabinet Secretary. He will assume his new role on August 30, following Rajiv Gauba's tenure. Gauba, who received a one-year extension last year, is the country's longest-serving Cabinet Secretary.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has officially approved TV Somanathan's appointment, granting him a two-year tenure starting August 30, 2024. Additionally, he will serve as Officer on Special Duty in the Cabinet Secretariat from the date he joins until he assumes the role of Cabinet Secretary.
TV Somanathan, an IAS officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre, currently serves as Finance Secretary and Secretary Expenditure. Gauba, appointed as Cabinet Secretary in 2019 for an initial two-year term, received extensions during his tenure.
