Devotees Flock Temples in Sawan Month to Worship Lord Shiva

Crowds of devotees have gathered at key temples across India during the auspicious Sawan month to offer prayers and perform rituals dedicated to Lord Shiva. The month, known for fasting and pilgrimage, is marked by special aartis and traditions that attract thousands, seeking blessings and divine grace.

Devotees thronged the Mahakaleshwar temple in Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain on the fourth Monday of 'Sawan', where Bhasma Aarti, a unique ritual, was performed. Besides, prayers were also offered at Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Uttar Pradesh and Sadashiv Mahadev Mandir in Ahmedabad, marking an auspicious occasion for devout Hindus.

The month of Sawan is revered in Hindu mythology as a special period for worshipping Lord Shiva. It is believed that devotees who worship Shiva during this time are granted numerous blessings. Celebrated typically between July and August, Sawan commemorates the deity's compassionate act of consuming poison that emerged during the churning of the ocean (Samudra Manthan), safeguarding the universe. The month involves fasting, pilgrimage, and various rituals to honor Shiva.

On August 9, coinciding with the festival of Naag Panchami, a remarkable number of devotees visited the Nagchandreshwar temple within Mahakaleshwar's premises. Known for its rare idol of Shiva-Parvati on Sheshnag, the temple opens its doors only once a year, drawing vast crowds. Enhanced security and facilities were reported to ensure the smooth conduct of rituals and devotees' convenience.
