On Monday, Meghalaya Chief Minister Sangma Conrad and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi to address the unfolding situation in Bangladesh and its potential impacts on India's North East region. The meeting aimed at ensuring regional stability and border security.

During the discussions, Chief Minister Sangma emphasized the concerns and apprehensions of the people living in border areas. He conveyed the importance of safeguarding the borders and maintaining peace, as articulated in his post on X. Deputy CM Tynsong also participated in the crucial dialogue.

Bangladesh is currently navigating a turbulent political phase, with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigning on August 5 amid mounting protests. In contrast, Meghalaya's political landscape witnessed Sangma's NPP winning 26 seats in the recent Assembly elections, securing his second term as Chief Minister. The NPP-led coalition, supported by 45 legislators, demonstrates a stable yet alert administration in the face of regional uncertainties.
