Bharatiya Janata Party Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi on Tuesday lashed out at the Samajwadi Party, accusing it of consistently siding with criminals. Trivedi referenced past incidents, claiming that the party's influence has emboldened criminal behavior in Uttar Pradesh. He cited insensitive comments made by Samajwadi leaders when justice was not served in cases of rape victims.
Trivedi argued that supporting criminals seems embedded in the Samajwadi Party's DNA. He stated, “Crime and criminals should not be judged based on religion, ideology, or political affiliation but as criminals alone. 'Apradh or Apradhiyon ka Sahaj Sath' (Crime and Companionship with Criminals) aptly describes the Samajwadi Party's political DNA.” On August 12, former SP leader Nawab Singh Yadav was arrested for allegedly attempting to rape a 15-year-old girl, according to the police.
Kannauj Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Anand revealed details of the case, stating the incident occurred in the early hours and the girl was rescued promptly. Advocate Naveen Kumar Dubey confirmed Nawab Singh Yadav's arrest and subsequent 14-day judicial custody. The girl, aged around 15, was reportedly misled into visiting Yadav's residence with the promise of a job, leading to her assault.
The Samajwadi Party has since distanced itself from Nawab Singh Yadav, with District President Kaleem Khan clarifying that Yadav was not an active member and had been involved in anti-party activities for years. Similarly, SP leader Moeed Khan has been accused of raping a 12-year-old girl and blackmailing her family, leading to his arrest and the demolition of his unlawfully constructed bakery by the Ayodhya district administration.
