Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma unveiled a statue of Bishnu Ram Medhi, a freedom fighter and former Chief Minister, at Bharalitola in Hajo on Wednesday. Medhi, often referred to as the Iron Man of Assam, was honored for his significant contributions to the state's development and unity.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Sarma highlighted Medhi's dedication to continuing the work of Bharat Ratna Gopinath Bordoloi, who envisioned a peaceful and developed Assam. Sarma noted Medhi's efforts to expel illegal immigrants, foster unity among diverse communities, and implement significant public welfare legislation.

The Chief Minister also announced that the upcoming bridge over the Brahmaputra connecting Palasbari and Sualkuchi would be named in Medhi's honor. Additionally, Sarma visited the Nabagraha Crematorium to review redevelopment and beautification efforts, ensuring the project's timely completion. The event saw the attendance of various dignitaries, including MLA Suman Haripriya and Kamrup's District Commissioner, Keerthi Jalli.
