BRS Leader KTR Apologizes Over Controversial 'Break Dance' Remark

BRS working President Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao publicly apologized for his 'break dance' comment aimed at women. He dismissed allegations of a secret pact with BJP, asserting BRS's autonomy. Rao reaffirmed the party's commitment to Telangana's future prosperity.

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working President and MLA Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao issued a public apology on Friday for his 'break dance' comment that many found offensive towards women. Rao expressed his regret on social media platform X, saying, 'I am sorry if our women sisters were offended by the usual comments made in the party meeting yesterday.'

Rao attempted to clarify his intent, stating, 'I never meant to offend my sisters.' His apology came after Telangana Congress accused him of insulting Telangana women with remarks during a recent party meeting, where he reportedly said, 'Let them (women) do break dance or recording in RTC buses.'

Addressing further allegations by Congress that BRS has a 'secret understanding' with the BJP, Rao vehemently denied such claims. He cited his sister K Kavitha’s imprisonment in connection to a money laundering case linked to the Delhi excise policy scam as proof that no such agreement exists. 'Would she have spent 150 days in jail if we had a secret agreement with them?' he questioned.

'They say that I touched the feet of the BJP or made a secret agreement with them. What is the need for us? You should think about this. Is any Congress leader in jail today? Who has a secret agreement? We or them?' he added. Rao emphasized that BRS is committed to working for the people and strengthening the party for future generations.

'We will work together with the people. TRS has been here for 24 years. We will strengthen it so that it will last for another 24 or 50 years. Many wish that we would disappear. There are many people who wished that this party shouldn't exist right from when it was started by KCR. Many people who wished that we and our party should disappear have disappeared but our party still stands strong. We have won two elections since Telangana was formed,' Rao asserted.

Earlier, Telangana Congress accused BRS of shifting its votes to BJP in several constituencies during recent Lok Sabha polls. In the 2024 Lok Sabha election, Congress and BJP each won eight out of 17 seats in the state, with AIMIM securing one seat, while BRS failed to win any.
