The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will convene a pivotal meeting at its Extension Office in Delhi on Saturday to launch an extensive membership drive. This high-level meeting will see the attendance of all national office bearers, state in-charges, co-in-charges, all state BJP presidents, and organizational general secretaries.
Members of the BJP Membership Drive Committee from across all states will also be present. The meeting will focus on key aspects of the membership drive, such as the start date and the comprehensive process of the campaign.
The agenda includes finalizing the procedures for the membership drive and organizational elections. Following these drives and elections, from the Mandal level up to district and state levels, the BJP is set to elect its new national president in January 2025. Current President JP Nadda, whose term has ended, will remain in office until the election of his successor.
According to Article 19 of the BJP's constitution, the party president is elected by an electoral college made up of all National Council and State Council members, following a detailed election process from district to state levels. As stipulated, candidates must have served as active members for at least four terms and as primary members for at least 15 years.
An eligible candidate can be nominated by a joint proposal from at least 20 electoral college members from at least five states where National Council elections have occurred. The candidate’s consent is mandatory. Typically, the party conducts a nationwide membership drive before this, and the entire process spans approximately 5-6 months. (ANI)
