BRS working president and MLA Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao expressed national trauma over the rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College Hospital in Kolkata, calling it a reflection of ongoing gender violence. Speaking to ANI, Rao said, 'The incident has stirred the nation's conscience, highlighting the pervasive issue of sexual harassment, honor killings, and physical violence against women that plagues our society daily.'

Rao emphasized the need for the country to unite, educate boys on the repercussions of such crimes, and foster a culture of gender sensitivity. 'We, as a society, must evolve and instill the understanding that committing such acts leads to social ostracization. This change will be gradual but necessary for the world's largest democracy to rise above these issues,' he noted, stressing the importance of collective responsibility rather than politicization.

Reflecting on societal failures, Rao admitted discomfort in ensuring his daughter's safety. 'This incident underscores deep societal flaws that need addressing,' he added. In response to the tragedy, doctors and medical representatives nationwide have announced protests in solidarity, demanding justice and systemic change.
