Nationwide Uproar Over Trainee Doctor's Tragic Death

Medical professionals and artists across India protest the alleged rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College, calling for strict action against perpetrators. Protests included candle marches and nationwide strikes, highlighting demands for justice and immediate apprehension of those responsible.

The medical fraternity and various artists across the country continue to protest against the alleged rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. On Saturday, doctors from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College of Aligarh Muslim University held a candle march, raising slogans and banners demanding strict action against the culprits.

The participating doctors emphasized their demand for justice, condemning the brutal crime, and calling for the perpetrators to be apprehended and given the harshest punishment. In Odisha, members of the Odisha Nursing Employees Association of Sahid Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital also organized a candle march, with both nurses and doctors strongly protesting the crime in Kolkata.

Theatre artists from West Bengal joined the protests by staging a midnight march on Saturday, demonstrating against the incident. Earlier that day, following the Indian Medical Association’s call for a nationwide strike, doctors at AIIMS in Delhi held a protest march on campus, raising slogans such as ‘We want justice’ and holding posters.

Protests continued in Maharashtra as doctors demanded justice for the postgraduate trainee doctor. Similarly, at AIIMS Mangalagiri, junior doctors and medical students protested against the incident at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

On August 9, a postgraduate trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, triggering widespread protests. On August 14, a mob vandalized the protest site at RG Kar Hospital, damaging vehicles and public property, leading security officials to disperse the crowd.
