Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has stressed the importance of unity among all communities for the development of the state. Speaking at the two-day event marking the 116th birth anniversary of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur, Saha called for collaboration regardless of religion, caste, or political ideology.

The event, held in Khumulwng in the West Tripura district, was jointly organized by INTACH Tripura Chapter and the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). The program featured a panel discussion and an exhibition that highlighted the Maharaja's contributions, who is often referred to as the 'Architect of Modern Tripura'.

Addressing the gathering, Saha said the previous government had distanced the royal family from the public and failed to recognize their welfare initiatives. He noted that since 2018, his government has made significant efforts to honor Maharaja Bir Bikram, including renaming the Agartala airport and declaring his birthday a public holiday.

Additionally, the Chief Minister highlighted other initiatives like renaming the Zero Island at Kaman Chowmuhani after Maharaja Bir Bikram and installing statues of the Maharaja at key locations to reflect the government's respect for the royal family.

In his speech, Saha reiterated the need for communal unity to ensure Tripura's development, envisioning the state as a future model if everyone works collectively. He urged against politicizing developmental efforts and emphasized continuing the progressive legacy of Maharaja Bir Bikram.

Saha also acknowledged central government initiatives under Prime Minister Narendra Modi for tribal community upliftment, noting improvements in connectivity under the HIRA model. Other speakers at the event included MP Kriti Devi Debbarma, MDC Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, ADC Chief Executive Member Purna Chandra Jamatia, and Tripura Central University Vice-Chancellor Ganga Prasad Prasain.

Following the inauguration, the Chief Minister and other dignitaries toured an exhibition on Maharaja Bir Bikram's life and contributions, and opened traditional food stalls.
