TMC leader Kunal Ghosh visited the CBI office in Kolkata on Monday to deliver crucial information from junior doctors. Ghosh emphasized that these doctors, lacking direct access to the CBI, sought his help to convey the information. 'If this information is useful to them, the junior doctors are ready to cooperate,' he stated.
Ghosh clarified his visit was for personal matters and forwarding the junior doctors' message. He mentioned, 'I have come here to provide information required before traveling outside Kolkata and to convey the junior doctors' message.'
On August 9, a postgraduate trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College, sparking nationwide protests and demands for stringent punishment of the accused. Following dissatisfaction with the Kolkata Police's investigation, the Calcutta High Court ordered the CBI to take over. The CBI is employing advanced techniques for the probe, including 3D laser mapping and psychological evaluations of the suspects.
West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose criticized the state's handling of women's safety, saying, 'Bengal has failed its women. The government must restore safety and dignity for women.' Governor Bose plans to discuss the situation with Home Minister Amit Shah.
Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, also condemned the state government for failing to ensure women's security. 'It's shameful that the government admits women aren't safe at night,' Adhikari remarked. He criticized the inconsistency between promoting women's empowerment and the actual safety measures.
Victim's family counsel Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya accused the state government of tampering with witnesses. 'The role of the CM in West Bengal is condemnable. She attempts to influence witnesses by offering compensation to victims' families,' he said.
The Supreme Court of India, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, will hear the case on August 20, further underscoring the national significance of the incident.
