In a landmark move, Telangana's government has forgiven agricultural loans up to Rs 2 lakh, a decision lauded by Civil Supplies and Irrigation Minister Capt. N Uttam Kumar Reddy. Speaking at Jal Soudha alongside fellow ministers, Reddy highlighted the scheme's impact and acknowledged minor issues with farmer data, promising swift resolution.
Reddy detailed the loan waivers in stages: Rs 1 lakh on July 18, Rs 1.5 lakh on July 30, and Rs 2 lakh by August 15. He assured farmers that discrepancies in Aadhaar cards, bank accounts, and ration cards causing waiver delays would be corrected. Agriculture Officers have been tasked with updating missing information.
The Congress government claims to have waived Rs 18,000 crore in loans within months, contrasting sharply with what they describe as the BRS government's limited and inefficient efforts. Furthermore, a grievance cell has been established for farmers. Reddy condemned the BJP government for its lack of action on farmers' issues, urging farmers to ignore opposition propaganda.
