Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday called on tax officers to adopt simpler language in income tax communications. She emphasized that tax notices should not incite fear among taxpayers.

Addressing the 165th Income Tax Day celebration, Sitharaman advised against disproportionate actions and recommended fair use of enforcement measures. She urged tax officers to be clear and straightforward in their communications.

Sitharaman also underscored the need for fairness and transparency, aiming to improve voluntary compliance and expedite refunds. She reiterated that the goal is to discourage unnecessary harassment and encourage trustworthy interactions with taxpayers.
