Amidst growing public outrage over the alleged Badlapur sexual assault case, Maharashtra Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar has proposed the installation of panic buttons in schools and hostels to ensure women's safety. 'Just like CCTVs in schools, panic buttons can also be installed. It is an advanced technology,' Kesarkar mentioned during a press conference in Mumbai.

Discussing the ongoing investigation, Kesarkar noted that the probe, led by the deputy director of the Mumbai region, involved multiple departmental authorities. 'The police will decide which sections the cases are filed under. Those found negligent have been identified as co-accused and will face consequences,' he added. He criticized the opposition for inaction during their tenure while affirming the current administration's proactive measures.

A joint report by the Women and Child Welfare Department and the Education Ministry on the Badlapur case was handed to Kesarkar on Monday. Earlier, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) registered an FIR against school authorities for not reporting the assault per the POCSO Act, mandating such incidents be reported to police. The alleged sexual assault of two fourth-grade girls in Badlapur has triggered widespread outrage. A school attendant was arrested on August 17 for the alleged abuse, with subsequent FIRs filed against school authorities on August 23 for non-compliance. The SIT recorded the statements of the minor victims and their parents as part of the investigation.
