Tripura Calls for Central Aid Amid Flood Crisis

The Tripura government has urged the central government to dispatch an Inter-Ministerial Central Team for flood damage assessment. With the Indian Meteorological Department forecasting more rainfall, relief operations are underway. 26 people have died, and significant infrastructure damage has been reported.

The Tripura government has appealed to the central government for an early deployment of an Inter-Ministerial Central Team to evaluate the damage caused by recent floods. The state's disaster department noted on Monday that this team would facilitate the state in submitting a memorandum for additional restoration support.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall over the next two days in South Tripura District, issuing a yellow alert. Despite less rainfall in the last three days, the state received its highest rainfall of 38 mm at Panisagar in 24 hours. The Gomati River at Sonamura remains above danger level, according to official releases.

State and national disaster response teams are in action, with three SDRF and five NDRF teams working on relief efforts in the Gomati and Sepahijala Districts. Around 500 volunteers are aiding relief operations, and 471 relief camps are operational, sheltering over 70,000 people. Essential relief, including food, water, and medical aid, is being provided. The death toll has risen to 26, with substantial damage to infrastructure reported.
