Janata Dal (United) announced on Saturday the suspension of Jammu and Kashmir General Secretary Vivek Bali due to his alleged involvement in "anti-party activities." The decision was made by state party president G M Shaheen after Bali's comments on the release of stone pelters conflicted with the party's official position.

"This action was taken due to Mr Bali's involvement in anti-party activities. The decision follows a comprehensive review of the circumstances, underscoring the party's commitment to upholding its principles and integrity," stated GM Shaheen. JD(U) clarified that reports attributing the alleged release of stone pelters to the party were baseless.

The party emphasized that Bali's opinions were personal and not representative of JD(U)'s stance. Jammu and Kashmir's assembly polls are scheduled in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1, marking the first elections post the abrogation of Article 370.
