Telangana Shuts Schools Amid Heavy Rains; PM Modi Assures Assistance

Telangana Minister of Information and Public Relations Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy announced that private and government schools in Hyderabad's rain-affected areas will remain closed. Speaking at a Sunday press conference, Reddy noted the District Collector will officially announce the closures to ensure children's safety.
'The District Collectors will declare school closures in areas experiencing heavy rains. Most schools in Hyderabad and its surroundings, including private institutions, are closed. The government's priority is to keep children indoors during the heavy rains,' Reddy stated. The Hyderabad District Collector had earlier announced the closure of primary and secondary schools for Monday.
'Due to the forecast of heavy rains in Hyderabad District, all primary and secondary schools, under all managements (government, aided, and private), are hereby declared a holiday on Monday, 02-09-2024, as a precautionary measure to ensure children's safety,' the District Collector announced on X. On Sunday, Reddy also visited Khamman to review rescue and relief operations in flood-affected areas.
Simultaneously, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to assess the situation in both states amid heavy rains and floods. Modi assured all possible assistance from the central government to manage the crisis.
According to a Telangana CMO release, PM Modi enquired about the flood situation and resultant damages in the rain-hit areas during a phone call with CM Reddy. The Chief Minister highlighted the losses incurred and briefed the PM on the immediate relief measures, emphasizing that the state government acted swiftly to prevent any further inconvenience or loss of life.
The Chief Minister further informed the Prime Minister that Khammam district bore the brunt of the heavy rains, suffering significant rain-related damages.
