The families of two men accused in the firing outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan's Mumbai residence have sought protection, alleging a threat from underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's network. Letters were sent to the Maharashtra and Bihar governments highlighting the grave danger they face.

Vicky Gupta and Sagar Pal were detained after the April 14 incident. Their families claim they were informed of potential plots against the accused during jail visits. They have now raised concerns about ending up like co-accused Anuj Thapan, who died in police custody in May.

Lawyer for Vicky Gupta told ANI, "The accused have given an application seeking protection, alleging threats from D Company." Additionally, it was suggested Salman Khan has connections with a gangster who might want the accused killed. The incident has also seen the invocation of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) by Mumbai Police, targeting the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
