EET and SSE to Launch Gowy Green Hydrogen Project in Northwest England

Essar Energy Transition (EET) and SSE have partnered to develop a 40 MW green hydrogen project named Gowy Green Hydrogen at the Stanlow Manufacturing Complex in Cheshire. The project is set to support regional industrial decarbonization and could be operational by 2028. This joint effort aligns with the UK's goal to deliver 10 GW of low-carbon hydrogen by 2030.

Essar Energy Transition (EET) has teamed up with UK gas-fired power generator SSE to develop a 40 MW green hydrogen project in northwest England, the companies announced on Tuesday.

Named Gowy Green Hydrogen, the project is located at the Stanlow Manufacturing Complex in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, and aims to decarbonize regional industrial operations, supporting job growth in the area. The project's initial phase aims to provide hydrogen to industrial offtakers and is expected to be operational by 2028, pending approvals and investment decisions.

The UK's ambitious target is to deliver 10 GW of low-carbon hydrogen by 2030 to support a clean power system and decarbonize hard-to-abate industries. Joe Seifert, CEO of EET Hydrogen, and Hannah Bronwin, Director of Business Development for SSE Thermal, both expressed enthusiasm about the project's role in the energy transition and regional decarbonization efforts.
