Assam's Panchayat and Rural Development Minister, Ranjeet Kumar Dass, announced on Wednesday the launch of the second phase of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) in Assam alongside the rest of India. This initiative, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, underscores the government's commitment to 'Housing for All'. The nationwide PMAY-G extension aims to provide an additional two crore houses over five years.
Scheduled to start on September 15, Assam's second phase of PMAY-G includes the sanctioning of 1,71,593 houses. The government will also host a Grah Pravesh ceremony for 1,03,575 completed houses. Dass highlighted the scheme's success in reaching the remotest and poorest segments of the population under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa's leadership, with 15,13,133 houses completed in three years.
PMAY-G 2.0 promises to enhance housing infrastructure and improve living conditions for rural communities. Prime Minister Modi will participate in the launch ceremony in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, and will oversee the distribution of the first instalment to 10 lakh beneficiaries, also initiating a new Awaas Plus survey to update the Permanent Wait List for future phases.
