Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy sharply criticized the Congress-led Karnataka government on Thursday regarding the recent communal tension in Mandya, following stone-pelting incidents during a religious procession. He blamed the government's 'inefficiency' and focus on protecting 'one section of society' for recurring incidents. 'Kannadigs are peaceful people who do not support such clashes,' Kumaraswamy stated to ANI, emphasizing the importance of government responsibility in safeguarding all communities.
Kumaraswamy, also a senior Janata Dal (Secular) leader, announced his visit to Mandya on September 13. 'The situation is under control now, but much damage has been done,' he said. 'I am receiving continuous updates about the developments. Some miscreants tried to disrupt the Ganesh procession,' he added.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy assured action against those responsible for the violence. Following an inspection of the site, he reported a peaceful situation and announced that the Revenue Department and Police would assess the damages, promising compensation. The Mandya District Collector reported the arrest of 54 individuals involved in the incident. 'All precautionary measures are in place, and a full damage assessment is ongoing,' he confirmed.
