Indian Workers Protest to Repeal Labour Codes Favoring Corporations

Thousands of Indian workers marched through major cities including New Delhi, Lucknow, and Kolkata on Monday, rallying against four labor codes they argue favor multinational corporations.

Protesters brandished banners and placards, chanting slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government. 'The labor laws were introduced by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in 2019, despite union objections,' said Vidya Sagar Giri, national vice president of the All India Trade Union Congress.

The growing discontent threatens Modi's efforts to attract foreign investors by easing labor laws. Union leaders claim the government aims to let large corporations cut wages through outsourcing, infringing on workers' union rights.
