In a bid to improve food hygiene, Himachal Pradesh Minister Vikramaditya Singh announced Wednesday that street vendors and shopkeepers must display their identification. This regulation comes after concerns from the public about the safety of street food.

Singh emphasized that the decision was taken during a joint meeting with the Urban Development and Municipal Corporation. He stated that the initiative is similar to one recently implemented in Uttar Pradesh, where vendor identification has become mandatory.

Earlier in the day, Singh confirmed the development through a Facebook post, underlining that the policy aims to protect public health. The Uttar Pradesh government had made a similar move on Tuesday, mandating the display of IDs and the use of masks and gloves by chefs and waiters, as well as installing CCTV cameras in food establishments.
