Historic Turnout Marks Peaceful Conclusion of J&K Polls

The third and final phase of polling in the seven districts of Jammu and Kashmir concluded peacefully on Tuesday with a record voter turnout of 65.58%, as per the Election Commission of India (ECI). With this, the voting process in the Union Territory has come to an end, with results scheduled for October 8.
According to data from the ECI, Udhampur led the voter turnout with 72.91%, followed by Samba at 72.41%, Kathua with 70.53%, Jammu at 66.79%, Bandipora with 64.85%, Kupwara at 62.76%, and Baramulla at 55.73%. The ECI highlighted that the elections were conducted in a peaceful and celebratory atmosphere.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar emphasized that the elections marked a significant deepening of democracy, which will be remembered in history. He commended the people of J&K for their determination and faith in the democratic process. The elections saw an impressive increase in voter turnout, demonstrating growing confidence in the electoral process, particularly in areas previously known for militancy and boycotts.
Kashmiri Migrant voters were facilitated with 24 special polling stations across Jammu (19), Udhampur (1), and Delhi (4). In phase-3, 40 Assembly constituencies across seven districts participated, with 5060 polling stations set up for voters. A total of 415 candidates contested, including 387 men and 28 women.
Phase-1 and Phase-2 recorded polling percentages of 61.38% and 57.31%, respectively. The counting of votes is scheduled for October 8. (ANI)
