In a decisive development, the Central government has augmented the additional power quota allocated to Uttarakhand by 180 MW and extended the provision until June 30, 2025. This measure ensures an uninterrupted electricity supply for the state's residents, including the challenging winter months, according to an official statement.
Previously, on September 26, the central government had granted Uttarakhand an additional 300 MW of power effective until March 31, 2025. Following this recent increment, a total of 480 MW of additional power from the central pool will now be accessible to the state. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Energy Minister Manohar Lal Khattar for their support.
Earlier discussions between CM Dhami and Union Minister Khattar saw the Chief Minister advocating for increased power allocation to address the state's electricity shortage. CM Dhami emphasized the widening gap between the demand and supply of electricity in Uttarakhand. To mitigate this, the state government is formulating a long-term strategy aimed at bolstering power generation through solar, hydroelectric, and coal energy sources.
Winter conditions, including snowfall, frequently disrupt hydropower project outputs, affecting the state's power supply. With the central allocation of 480 MW, CM Dhami assured the public of a steady electricity flow even during winter. He highlighted that this power boost from the central pool will significantly contribute to maintaining a stable electricity supply for the people of Uttarakhand. (ANI)
