Nitish Kumar Inspects Flood-Hit Bihar as Relief Efforts Intensify

Bihar faces severe flooding with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar leading relief inspections, particularly in areas affected by water discharges from Kosi Barrage. With rivers breaching danger levels, displaced residents find refuge along roadsides, supported by community kitchens and continued material aid distribution plans.

Amidst severe flooding across Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar conducted inspections of affected areas to assess and enhance ongoing relief efforts. Heavy discharge from the Kosi Barrage in Birpur, following relentless rain in Nepali catchment areas, has precipitated widespread flooding issues in the state, according to the Chief Minister's office.

Northern Bihar and bordering Nepali districts experienced intensified flooding due to substantial water releases from the Kosi and Gandak barrages. Additionally, a breach in the Mandar dam in Sitamarhi's Belsand block exacerbated flood conditions on September 29. The Aurai block in Muzaffarpur saw mass evacuations on October 3 as residents fled waterlogged homes.

Muzaffarpur District Magistrate Subrat Kumar Sen reported rising water levels in the Bagmati River, attributing it to dam breaches in Sitamarhi and Sheohar districts. Authorities are establishing community kitchens in heavily impacted areas, providing sustenance without necessitating long commutes. Boat movement is permitted in flooded zones to ease accessibility challenges.

To aid displaced residents, over 20,000 polythene sheets have been dispatched with further plans for distribution. The administration has also set up medical and veterinary facilities to address health concerns. Two senior officials have been assigned to supervise these operations, ensuring efficient delivery of services and material support.
