India is on course to boost its sustainable aviation fuel production, with the potential to yield 8-10 million tonnes by 2040, according to a Deloitte India report released Tuesday. The report highlighted that the anticipated production exceeds domestic needs and could strengthen India's position as a primary SAF exporter on the global stage.
The nationwide effort, requiring investments between USD 70-85 billion, aims to enhance the aviation sector's decarbonization, decreasing annual carbon emissions by 20-25 million tonnes. The project will not only support environmental goals but also stimulate economic growth by creating between 1.1 and 1.4 million jobs.
The report also noted the strategic use of 230 million tonnes of agricultural residue as feedstock. This approach will not only drive SAF production but also increase farmers' income and reduce the nation's crude oil import bills by USD 5-7 billion each year, marking a significant economic contribution.
