India and China Agree on LAC Patrolling to Ease Border Tensions

India and China have reached a significant agreement on patrolling the Line of Actual Control, seeking to resolve tensions since 2020. This development comes ahead of PM Modi's visit to Russia for the BRICS summit, marking a crucial step in stabilizing relations and preventing future military confrontations.

An agreement has been reached between India and China regarding patrolling arrangements along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), announced the Ministry of External Affairs on Monday. This development precedes Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming visit to Kazan, Russia, for the 16th BRICS summit scheduled for October 22-24.

According to Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, the agreement is the result of extensive discussions over recent weeks with Chinese officials at both diplomatic and military levels. These talks included military commanders from both nations, aiming to address long-standing tensions since 2020, when violent clashes resulted in casualties.

Misri emphasized that the agreement marks a crucial step towards disengagement and potential resolution of the issues stemming from the significant confrontations of 2020. This development signifies efforts by both nations to stabilize relations, manage border disputes, and avert further military conflicts.
