Scuffle Erupts at Jamia Millia's Diwali Festivity

A dispute broke out during a Diwali event at Jamia Millia Islamia University. Conflicting student groups clashed over the celebration, leading to a viral video and allegations. A confrontation unfolded at Jamia Millia Islamia University on Tuesday night, disrupting a Diwali celebration organized by students. The incident, occurring near gate 7 around 7:30-8 pm, did not result in any formal complaints, police reported. Officers were stationed outside the campus to maintain order.

The altercation began when disputes arose regarding the nature of the event. ABVP-affiliated students who were preparing decorations were interrupted by another group discontent with the proceedings, leading to a skirmish that saw rangoli and diyas disturbed.

Efforts by ANI to obtain comments from the university's administration went unanswered. Meanwhile, a video depicting portions of the confrontation has gained traction on social media platforms.

Circulated on platform X, the footage shows students engaged in heated exchanges while security personnel attempted to restore calm. The JMI Student Federation of India accused ABVP of instigating violence under the pretense of celebrating Diwali, while the NSUI also criticized ABVP's actions.

In response, ABVP's national media convenor, Ashutosh Singh, countered the claims, stating that their Diwali celebration proceeded without incident until another group disrupted it, accusing them of vandalizing decorations and raising pro-Palestinian slogans, asserting they were not at fault for subsequent violence.
