The Delhi High Court has rejected a petition filed by Inder Pal Singh Gaba, accused in connection with a protest outside the Indian High Commission in London. Justice Subramonium Prasad dismissed Gaba's plea challenging his arrest by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and subsequent custody terms.
The court has yet to release a detailed order on the decision. Authorities have filed a charge sheet in the Special NIA Court in New Delhi, which has acknowledged its contents.
On September 5, the NIA charged Gaba, a UK national originally from New Delhi, with participating in the anti-India protest on March 22 last year, seen as part of the Khalistani secessionist movement. He was detained by NIA on April 25 after thorough investigations identified his involvement, including an interception by Immigration Authorities at the Attari border in December 2023.
The NIA probe revealed Gaba's active role in the demonstration against the backdrop of actions by Punjab police against Amritpal Singh, leader of Waris Punjab De. The protests allegedly sought to advance the Khalistan agenda by attempting to divide Punjab from India, according to NIA findings.
