The first day of the nation-wide general strike called in protest against alleged anti-labour policies of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre on Tuesday evoked a mixed response in Bihar. Working at public sector banks came to a standstill across the state even as other commercial establishments were partially hit by processions taken out by various trade unions which urged offices and shops to down their shutters. A statement issued by the Bank Employees' Federation, Bihar, termed the strike as a "grand success" that gave "a befitting reply to the anti-worker policies of the central government".

Processions were taken out in various parts of the state by trade unions, most of them affiliated to the Left parties. Vehicular traffic was adversely affected in some parts of the state capital on account of a demonstration staged at the Dak Bungalow crossing. No untoward episode was reported from any part of the state on account of the strike to which the main opposition RJD in the state has also extended its support.
