The Supreme Court has refused a plea from Indrani Mukerjea, a former media executive accused of murdering her daughter Sheena Bora, to travel overseas. Justices MM Sundresh and Rajesh Bindal have directed the trial court to expedite the case, aiming for completion within a year.

The court's decision arrives in response to Mukerjea's appeal against a September 2024 ruling by the Bombay High Court, which denied her overseas travel. Although Mukerjea, who was granted bail in 2022, presented her case citing personal reasons, including property tax issues and updating bank accounts, her request was rejected.

Mukerjea's legal team highlighted her six-and-a-half-year custody as a ground for her request. However, the Supreme Court maintained its stance, emphasizing the importance of concluding the trial promptly and denied her appeal.
