The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced on Wednesday its plans to release new Rs 50 denomination banknotes featuring the signature of Sanjay Malhotra, the newly appointed governor. Malhotra took over from Shaktikanta Das in December 2024 after Das concluded his extended term.

According to an official statement, the design of the new notes aligns with the existing Rs 50 banknotes under the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series, ensuring uniformity in appearance.

Importantly, all previously issued Rs 50 notes will continue to be accepted as legal tender, maintaining the currency's validity in the financial system.
