Government Initiates Massive Surveillance Helicopter Procurement

The government is set to procure approximately 1,000 surveillance helicopters for high-altitude operations, aligning with 'Make in India' goals. The helicopters, operational by day and night, will meet Service Qualitative Requirements. A draft RFI for 50 heavy crawler rock drills accompanies this procurement, addressing infrastructural needs in challenging terrains.

The government has embarked on an ambitious mission to acquire nearly 1,000 surveillance helicopters, complete with accessories, for high-altitude operations. A comprehensive Request for Information (RFI) has been released, marking a significant step in enhancing the nation's aerial surveillance capabilities.

This procurement initiative is part of the broader 'Make in India' and 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' programs, aiming for self-reliance. Vendors are encouraged to propose categorization under Chapter-II of DAP-2020, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives. The RFI outlines critical operational requirements, specifying the challenging terrains of up to 5,500 meters where these helicopters will be deployed.

In tandem with the helicopter procurement, a draft RFI for 50 heavy crawler rock drills has also been issued. The Indian Army plans to employ these drills in rugged terrains for infrastructure development, emphasizing the urgency of creating reliable communication lines in remote and demanding regions.
