Union Home Minister Amit Shah has instructed Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to expedite the implementation of three new criminal laws across the state's commissionerates. This directive was issued during a comprehensive review meeting on the status and execution of these legislative reforms.

At the meeting, Shah emphasized the necessity for Maharashtra to establish an exemplary Directorate of Prosecution system. This move aligns with the newly ratified laws—Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA)—which replace the Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, and Indian Evidence Act, respectively. The discussion covered current and future implications for police, judicial, and forensic operations in Maharashtra.

Highlighting an ambitious aim, Shah said that these legal changes, championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, are poised to ensure justice is delivered within a three-year window, from the filing of an FIR to the Supreme Court's final decision. These efforts are part of ongoing nationwide consultations, with similar meetings held in states like Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Haryana.
