In a dramatic turn of events, students affiliated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) organized protests at Kottayam Government Nursing College on Friday, demanding justice over an alleged ragging incident.
Visual footage revealed protesters pushing through police barricades, which led to officers using water cannons to disperse the crowd. Tensions mounted between the students and law enforcement as young activists aired their grievances about the administration's handling of the situation.
In the meantime, the Students' Federation of India (SFI), backed by the CPI(M), clarified that their union had no active presence at the college and distanced itself from the controversy. Calls for a comprehensive investigation grew louder after five students were taken into custody earlier this week in connection to the ongoing ragging case. In a separate incident in Kannur, a Class 11 student suffered a fractured arm due to alleged ragging, further underlining the seriousness of ragging-related violence in the region.
