Controversy Surrounds MUDA Scam Interim Report in Karnataka

The Karnataka Lokayukta submitted an interim 8,000-page B Report regarding the MUDA scam. While Union Minister Pralhad Joshi trusts Lokayukta justice, advocate Vasanth Kumar raises concerns about the report's timing, hinting at potential bias. An interim 8,000-page B Report concerning the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam was submitted by Karnataka Lokayukta SP Udesh on Thursday. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi expressed confidence in the Lokayukta's justice, emphasizing the involvement of former judges in overseeing the investigation. Joshi suggested that if Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is committed to transparency, he should either involve the CBI or allow a High Court-monitored investigation.

On the other hand, advocate Vasanth Kumar voiced skepticism over the report's submission. Citing potential bias, he remarked, "We expected this B report by the Lokayukta. That’s why we approached the High Court for a CBI probe. Submitting the report prior to a final inquiry implies prejudice. As per CrPC 173, an investigation authority must provide the petitioner with the final report, which we haven't received." Kumar is poised to challenge the report legally.

Lokayukta SP Udesh maintained the procedure was followed, asserting that the 8,000-page document forms a key part of the ongoing inquiry. Despite earlier notices citing insufficient evidence in Snehamayi Krishna's complaint, the Lokayukta found the allegations against the four accused—likely outside criminal investigation scope or misinterpreted. The case has thus been deemed "not actionable," prompting the final submission to the competent court.
