Narcissists are more prone to perceiving social exclusion compared to those with lower levels of self-absorption, according to a study led by researchers from the University of Basel in Switzerland.

The research suggests that the perception of exclusion might not solely stem from narcissistic tendencies or an over-focus on oneself but also from a tendency to misinterpret ambiguous social signals as exclusionary.

Study leader Christiane Buttner emphasized that feelings of ostracism are subjective, driven by personal interpretations of social cues. Findings show a complex two-way relationship between narcissism and ostracism, highlighting the importance of understanding this dynamic in addressing social issues.
