In a significant legal development, the Supreme Court is set to deliberate on the anticipatory bail petition of Chhattisgarh's former Advocate General SC Verma, alleged to be entangled in the 'Nagarik Apurti Nigam' scam. The state's legal representatives have assured the Court that no coercive actions will be initiated against Verma before the next hearing on February 2.
Allegedly, Verma is accused of leveraging his constitutional position to influence legal proceedings in favor of high-profile state officials. Mukul Rohatgi, Senior Advocate for Verma, contended that his client is being unfairly implicated based solely on WhatsApp conversations. These chats reportedly involve him and various co-accused individuals.
The State, represented by Deputy Advocate General Ravi Sharma and Standing Counsel Apoorv Shukla, opposed the bail plea, emphasizing the seriousness of the allegations derived from the WhatsApp chats. However, they maintained that the State is acting with impartiality, as evidenced by the decision not to arrest Verma before presenting the chat evidence in court within the stipulated three days.
