In the wake of plummeting chilli prices, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has pledged support to the state's struggling chilli farmers. During a crucial meeting with stakeholders, including farmers, exporters, and sellers, Naidu stressed the importance of collective cooperation to alleviate the financial distress farmers are experiencing.

Farmers revealed they are unable to recuperate the substantial Rs 3.5 lakh per acre investment due to dropping market rates and a significant labour shortage. Exporters highlighted a decline in demand from key import markets like China, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Indonesia, further impacting prices.

In response, the Centre may implement a market intervention scheme to purchase chillies below a certain price, with Naidu advocating for improved export routes through local ports to reduce added freight costs and enhance market access for farmers.
