VEDANTA GROUP has unveiled plans for a major economic boost in India's northeast with a pledge to invest Rs 50,000 crore in the oil and gas sectors of Assam and Tripura over the forthcoming 3-4 years, as disclosed by Chairman Anil Agarwal during the Advantage Assam investment summit.
Agarwal emphasized the strategic significance of Assam, highlighting its abundant resources, strategic location, and growth-oriented policies as pivotal to fueling India's development. This substantial investment includes building exploration and production facilities, fostering direct and indirect job creation for 1 lakh youths, thus transforming the region into a prominent hydrocarbon hub.
The venture will also see enhancements in the sector's infrastructure and a variety of corporate social responsibility initiatives, such as establishing more 'Anganwadi' centers, promoting sports, and offering digital classrooms. Cairn, part of the Vedanta Group, continues to operate in the Arakan basin with ongoing projects, including gas supply to local tea estates.
