Cochin Shipyard Limited, a leading entity in shipbuilding and repair, recently reached a notable milestone with the initiation of a hybrid Service Operation Vessel (SOV) for North Star Shipping in the UK. The steel-cutting event was inaugurated by James Bradford, CTO of North Star Shipping, with prominent CSL officials in attendance.

The Aberdeen-based North Star Shipping, a leader in the offshore wind industry, is advancing sustainable energy solutions. The 68-meter hybrid-electric SOV, designed by Norway's VARD AS, is the first of two such vessels being built by CSL. Equipped with diesel generators and lithium-ion batteries, it harnesses innovative technologies for enhanced efficiency.

Outfitted with Voith electric-cycloidal propulsors and SMST's Walk-to-Work system, the vessel is expected to redefine service and maintenance operations in offshore wind. Accommodating 54 personnel, it will serve as both a maintenance hub and a logistical centre, underscoring CSL's role in pioneering sustainable maritime advancements.
