Teen Motherhood: Class 10 Student in Odisha Gives Birth Amid Exams

A class 10 student in Odisha's Jajpur district gave birth to a baby girl amid her matriculation exams. The newborn, currently in critical condition, and the mother were transferred to the District Headquarters Hospital. Authorities are yet to confirm whether the student is a minor.

A class 10 student in Odisha's Jajpur district has become a mother, officials confirmed on Thursday. The student, who experienced severe abdominal pain, was rushed to Bari hospital where she gave birth on Wednesday.

According to Additional District Medical Officer A K Sharma, the infant, in poor health, was admitted to the pediatric ICU. Both mother and child have since been transferred to the District Headquarters Hospital in Jajpur.

Jajpur District Child Protection Officer Niranjan Kar stated that the student had been taking her matriculation examinations, raising questions about her age. Verification of her birth date is pending to determine if she is legally a minor.
