Surat's Shiv Shakti Market Engulfed in Flames Once Again

A fire that reignited in Surat's Shiv Shakti market has mobilized firefighting teams from both public and private sectors. Authorities are battling high temperatures and structural instability as they work to control the blaze. The market area has been cordoned off, and local businesses have been shuttered for safety.

Firefighting teams in Surat are grappling with a re-ignited blaze at the Shiv Shakti cloth market after it had previously been extinguished. Surat Municipal Corporation Commissioner Shalini Agarwal confirmed the continuous efforts to contain the fire, highlighting the collaboration with large private companies and the assurance of water supply.

Chief Fire Officer Basant Kumar Parikh pointed out the challenges posed by the high internal temperatures and uncertain structural stability. Parikh stated that almost half of the stores have been affected and detailed the use of hydraulic platforms for external operations.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Bhagirath Gadhavi emphasized that the affected area has been sealed off, with police evacuating and monitoring the vicinity to safeguard neighboring shops. The market, containing 800 shops, along with surrounding businesses, remains closed as efforts to control the situation continue.
