In the midst of intense discussions in Parliament on the National Education Policy (NEP), Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) representative Dayanidhi Maran rebutted claims by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan regarding Tamil Nadu's alleged endorsement of the policy. Maran firmly clarified that the DMK has never accepted the NEP or its contentious three-language formula, which remains unpopular in the southern state.
Maran accused Pradhan of fabricating details, arguing, "Dharmendra Pradhan lied by saying that DMK govt had agreed (to sign NEP). DMK never agreed to NEP or the 3-language policy. Why should our students in Tamil Nadu learn three languages, while students from North India learn just one?" He emphasized that the objection lies with the compulsory nature of the policy, not the Hindi language itself.
Meanwhile, DMK MP Kanimozhi expressed her deep concern over Pradhan's portrayal of Tamil Nadu MPs and citizens as "uncivilised" during his parliamentary reply. Countering the accusation, Kanimozhi declared it offensive. The debate over language policy continues to create friction, with Union Minister Pradhan contending that DMK's stance jeopardizes the educational prospects of Tamil Nadu students.
